Random Is Not Random But Merely Planned Spontaneity

"If you see a magic in a fairy tale, you can face the future"
                                                  Danielle Steel

So for the last couple months I have been collecting photos from websites that have inspired me. Whether they are focused on clothes or interior design or food they all make me happy so I thought I would share some of them. Its kinda like a Tumblr Post!

I am currently in love with Turquoise. My Grandma recently came to visit me and she game me like a hundred pair of earrings from when she was younger and to my delight a ton of them contained the color Turquoise. I found this photo a couple months ago and I have been lusting after the color ever since. It kinda has a southwestern feel to it. Love it!

I am not sure where I found this photo but I kind adore it. I love the sophistication of this gorgeous lady. Especially her clothes which are so classic and simple yet so refined and chic. How could you not want to steal her clothes!

I have been gazing at this picture and I really want to do something like this in my room. I mean there is just something enchanting about gold, sparkles, and the word "Magic." It is just so Peter Pan too mee and I love it! (Don't ask me why I thought of Peter Pan, My mind works in mysterious ways)

I love her hair so much. The way it flows effortlessly in curls that remind me kinda of the 70's, which is one of my favorite era's. I think I was born in the wrong decade, because I would have loved to wear the fashions from the 20's or the 60's or 70's. I mean how beautiful are those clothes and the women. So inspiring.
Don't even just me started on the makeup.

There is just something about this look that i really like. I have kept it in my photo loves files all year round. If you ever wondered if I was a neat person you got your answer. I organize my pictures, my room, my clothes. Three Things about me are 1. I love lists    2. I stay organized   3.  I adore vintage. You pretty much know me!

Back In Black: "Velvet Style"

Velvet. Its such a rich material but for years it has been truly the ugly trend that was popular in the past. But now it is back and I am celebrating. My first favorite lusting after velvet was when I was watching Project Runway and Gretchen Jones designed pieces that made me jump for joy. I loved her style so much, since the first week. This particular love for it has me searching vintage shops for velvet pieces everywhere.

And I want to apologize for the lack of posts lately. I have been completely MIA. But you must realize it was for good reason. My life is changing, mostly for the good, but still changing. I find myself second guessing myself and thinking on deeper things.  Life what I want to do with my life, and trying new things. Its quite confusing when you have done things for so long and all of the sudden it is over and you are like ,"What I am Supposed to Do Now." It has is good and bads but mostly is is good. And one of my ideas is to devote myself to spend some time on writing this blog. And also finding new blogs that inspire me.

So if you are going through something similar to this, I understand and my advice to you. Is break down your life and find out what is most important to you. Find out what you love and what you hate. Find out what you dread and what you continually get excited for. Because being miserable is a sad excuse, when you have the oppertunity to be happy nomatter what. You just need to take control of your life.

So, with That I leave you,

Octopus's Garden

"The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that Little Extra"

So I hope your weekend was fantastic in every single way. This post is simply not going to be about pictures and images, but about feelings. Do you know the feeling when you find something that is so rare and unique that has you world swimming upside down? This is how I felt this weekend when I saw a movie.

I hadn't planned on seeing it. I hadn't even wanted to see it. My family wanted to spend a little bit of time together in our busy schedules and my dad kept raving about it. The movie was Secretariat. To all you avid horse fans, I didn't know anything about this famous horse or his story. I personally tried to stay away from horse movies, cause most of them end up sad and the horse dies, gets hurt, or something in the nature. Some movies you are completely bored by, and some you watch are just okay. But this movie had an amazing effect on me. I fell in love with the heartfelt characters, the 60's housewife clothing, and the plot. But the most astounding thing to me was the words. They just lifted me up. My favorite quote would have to be:

"You never know how far you go, unless you run"

There is something about doing your best and taking chances and being the underdog that is truly an inspiration for Life in general. To understand you could either go the distance or fail and try again. But to regret a choice and forever live with the "What if's" is worthless.

So this short little post is whatever you want it to be. A movie review, some feelings, or random thoughts of a girl.  Simply think on these things!

Baking & Poetry

"Love Goes Toward Love, as schoolboys from their books;
But love from love, toward school with heavy looks."
                                                                Romeo and Juliet

So, I have been having this desire to eat a cupcake lately. I keep getting glimpses of all different kinds of cupcakes (recently, we were at the mall and I saw some adorable cupcakes at Cinnabon, like carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and red velvet). So I decided to have a baking night. So I grabbed my apron, my camera, and my book of recipes and got to work. Little did I know that 3 hrs. later I would be literally swimming in cupcakes and frosting. (I went a little overboard) Anyway I made vanilla and chocolate cupcakes. The chocolate cupcakes were actually german chocolate without the special frosting. (My sister really wanted cream cheese frosting) After looking at these pictures you will probably be curious why the rest of my house is a complete disaster. Well, our kitchen is being redone and so everything is out of place. We are finally getting rid of the pink tile (which you will see in the pictures). It is a much anticipated occasion when it will be finished. So I used our downstairs oven, yes we have a downstairs oven, because the previous owners were idiots when they designed this 1960’s home. It is ridiculous. Anyway it is the cutest little green oven that totally looks like one of the first ever modern ovens. Its ugly but at the same time, vintage.

Green With Envy

"It is our beliefs that determine our character,
or what we really are, and our character that determines are behavior."

Do you truly believe true love exists? Its an interesting question. Because you automatically admit to yourself, “Yes, Of Course it Exists.” Then you second guess yourself and say well it has to exist, everybody says it does. You wonder is there really that special person for me, or will I just settle for somebody else. Will I end up like those people in movies who are lonely, depressed, and lacking vitality? Because I feel like we all in the back of our minds worry about these things. It might not be a constant reoccurring but I believe everybody is secretly slightly about the possibility of true love. Does it exist? Is it something that is just in movies? Or is it truly possible in real life or will it happen to you? I don’t have any answers. Not any consolation. Just they idea that hopefully it does exist and if you are feeling the same way you are not alone. So hopefully our soul mates are out there.  Sorry to end on a sour note, well not sour, just a little bit on the edge of depressing. Put it out of your mind.

Well it is halloween weekend, so be prepared for all that crazy jazz. My favorite part is the true feeling of fall. I love how the leaves are changing to these rich vibrant colors and the geese are circling. I love the feeling of bundling up and sitting beside a warm fireplace. My favorite holiday is not halloween but rather the one of the best holidays, thanksgiving. I am already thinking of the pumpkin pies and stuffing. And speaking up pumpkins, I carved mine already. It looks like a poor little scared pumpkin but I love it!

A Taste of Heaven

One of my favorite passions is cooking. I try to experiment with new things, meaning new recipes because in my case i am not that creative. My dad went to baking school after college so he taught me how to bake cookies, cakes, and other sweets while my mother is a amazing cook who was on the mothers that everybody was jealous of because she had a home cooked meal every night. So you could definitely say our family is quite focused on food. So this was a dish I made a couple nights ago, It was inspired by the dishes found in Costa Rice of mixing rice and seafood.

Costa Rica Rice / Arroz a Costa Rica con Pollo
1 whole chicken
1 chopped onion.
1 chopped red sweet pepper.
2 big carrots or the equivalent, chopped very tiny.
1 chopped cilantro roll divide in 2 portions.
4 big chicken bullion "Maggi. (It has to be Maggi one time I tried with Knor a Mexican brand and was disgusting.
2 teaspoons of anato (Mexico) or achiote (Costa Rica), is the same, different name.
2 cups of rice, (I only used Jazmin rice). The other ones are mushy like chinese sticky rice and I just don't like it.

First Part:

Cut the chicken in big pieces ( if you don't know how, buy it from the store already in pieces, Is not a big deal!), Place the chicken in a big pot and cover with water, add about 3/4 of the chopped onions, the 4 chicken bouillons 1/2 chopped cilantro, 1 teaspoon of anato, 1 chopped sweet pepper, cook this for about 1 hour or until chicken is completely cook. Taste the broth to see if need a little bit of salt, or maybe half more chicken bouillons When you are happy with the flavor set aside.

Second Part:
Take another pot, and add the rice, the carrots, 1/4 of the onions, and using a strainer add the broth from the chicken that you just cooked, (about 2 cups and a half). Put the stove in high heat, (stir a couple times) don't cover the pot, once the broth is simmered cover with a lid, lower the heat, (very low heat). For about 10 minutes more. Taste it to see if the rice is soft.

Third Part:
Take the chicken in a bowl or in a cutting board ( you may have to wait until the chicken is cold enough to work with it), make it in a little pieces with 2 forks or just wash your hands, set aside.

Four Part:
In a another pot, add olive oil ( about 2 tablespoons) in medium heat, add 1/4 teaspoon of anato, add the chicken in tiny pieces, add the rice, and start to mixed everything together with a spoon, then add the other 1/2 of chopped cilantro.

I added a frozen selection of squid to this rice and took out the chicken. I was happily surprised to discover that this dish is amazing and completely delicious. My entire family loved the different taste and asked for it again sometime in the future. I say that is a great review!

And we will some new pleasures prove,
Of golden sands and crystal books.

-- The Bait by John Donne

Hello, Lovelies. My sister took this picture of me a couple of weeks ago and I still love it. The idea of being able to see your face in two angles at the same time is breathtaking. I am still contemplating what I am going to be for Halloween. On one side of the plate Halloween isn't really one of my favorite holidays. But it is still a cool occasion to celebrate the fall activities. I am very excited because Saturday night a bunch of my close friends are getting together, after a while of being MIA, and we are going to the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze in the Dark. It should be a good time.

I just finished the book, The Pact by Jodi Picoult. I am overwhelmed by the tragic and heartbreaking story of two families. When I completed this book, I felt drained and vulnerable because it was such an amazing read. There is not  a moment where I wasn't completely involved in this book. Absolutely a Must Read. But be prepared that a tear will be shed.

Its raining here. yes, how lucky am in to live in this gorgeous city where it always rains. if you just turned to this blog and saw that i was talking about the weather then you click ‘back’ because who wants to hear about the weather. i am the kind of person whose mood can be completely altered by the weather. if i wake up to the sun shining in my room my day automatically is better. whereas if it is dark and rainy i simply am reminded of all the dreaded things in my mind.  so winter is really not my favorite thing in the world. If I could choose, I would prefer to live in a city where it is warmer 90% of the year. Although I Do love to wear boots and tights and wool coats. Especially like these pictures below.

Sea of Shoes

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cray "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"
                               --Thomas Parke D'Invilliers

I have come across a most wonderful and beautiful website that has me lusting for christmas. It is an online shoe store focusing on "simple, versatile, and essential styles." Think Audrey Hepburn meats Twiggy. The store is  Marais USA  and it is the home of some of the most classic and cutest shoe styles, I personally have ever laid eyes on. Ranging From about $50 to $200, they are a mid expensive alternative to have adorable looking feet.

Any pair of these shoes, I would be proud and honored to have in my closet. Like I told you they are all classic and sophisticated and could be worn perfectly in any century. So you have to understand my present lust for these gorgeous girl's feet and more importantly what is on them.

Rantings & Ravings

Hello, Welcome to my blog. You are probably wondering about the title of my blog 'Love in the Afternoon.' It is actually a romantic comedy film starring Audrey Hepburn and Gary Cooper from 1957. I am a lover of old movies, and I just happened to love the title of that movie. So that is how it came to be.

My name is Elisabeth Adele. i am that girl who smiles to much, and laughs uncontrollably for long periods of time till her eyes start tearing up. i am that girl who has the ultimate desire to do her best at everything she takes on. I love reading and singing and dancing and enjoying the good things in life. i love photography because you get to remember specific times in your life. it is a perfect replication of a feeling or moment. i love to photograph the sky, because it is never the same but it is always beautiful.  i love fashion because it is a way to invent yourself and be original and unique. i am a girl with strong opinions and beliefs filled with a desire to learn and experience new things. i am not that girl who follows the in crowd, or does whatever to stay cool. i am proud of who i am and who i want to be. I love to cook, bake and be merry.

I am starting this  blog because i think the bloggers have all the fun, and want to be part of that phase that occured in the 2010's. basically i am just jealous and wanted to be apart of it. So this was just a little bit about me. You are probably in between, you don't really know if you want to follow this blog or you are just about to hit the backspace button. you are wondering what makes this blog so special. so just keep reading and pondering and don't give up on me. i promise you to be interesting.
